Gorleston Makes Music 2019

Local young talent

Sunday August 18th saw the finals 7th Gorleston Makes Music competition finals at Rotary Bandstand on Gorleston sea front.

The weather threatened about midday but by the time rock band AJQJ kicked things off at 1 pm it was a glorious afternoon and did they kick off, what an energetic performance the  trio of 20 year olds, Cameron Thompson, Will Murray & Aaron Lambert performing their own music gave the crowd of about 200, keep the name in mind.

They were followed by Tom Major with numbers from musical theatre, a very confident 17 year old.

To end the first half of the finals was Retro Firefly, Sam Penman from Lowestoft who performed her own composed mixture of key board and vocal items and again for a youngster what confidence.

To start 2nd  part we were entertained by local adult Country duo Lincoln Skins, Rebecca Nudd-Valentine & James Dean who only started performing together in May of this year. Theirs was a mixture of standard country numbers and their own compositions and the spectators will remember Rebecca’s rendering of Jolene for a while.

Next up were So Laissez Faire, 15 year old Charlotte Gray and 13 year old Brad Secker, singing and accompanying  themselves on guitars and they again performed their own compositions.

The afternoon was brought to any end by The Great Yarmouth Wave choir, a mixed adult choir under the direction of Sam Coe who rehearse at The Minster and in difficult conditions presented a range of choral numbers.

The judges as they have in the past were swayed by the young talent on show and So Laissez Faire took the 1st  prize of £250 award by Armultra, 2nd were AJQJ with £100 from M H King builders and 3rd place went to Tom Major with £50 from Donnatella’s.

Once again there was great audience who gave all the contestants generous applause and showed their generosity to Gorleston Rotary charity collection to the ‘tune’ of £350, very many thanks from the Rotary Club to all those that attended and gave genuine support to the event!
